“All children should be allowed to live and grow…and grow…and grow…until we grow up and can decide things for ourselves.” - UN Rights of a Child

During Autumn Term 2012 I worked with 250 pupils in a Leeds primary school, designing and creating a new colourful installation in their entrance area.

Across 11 sessions with each class, I focused on different techniques offering a chance for every child to input their own piece and explore creative materials. Each child created an individual leaf, which became part of a larger collaborative tree structure.

The final piece included a mixture of leaves and branches created by every child of the school as well as text from UNICEF’s ‘For Every Child’, a simplified version of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

The project culminated in a special assembly, where children read and interpreted the different rights of a child.
